Description

You are not broken.

Your body changed. Nobody told you the rules changed with it.

Somewhere after forty, the things that always worked stopped working. You ate less and the scale didn’t care. You added a fourth run and got nothing back but tired. You started waking at three in the morning for no reason you could name. And somewhere in there, a doctor or a trainer or your sister said something about willpower — and you nodded, and felt a small hot flush of shame that has never quite gone away.

The advice you were handed was built for a twenty-five-year-old man who lifts five days a week. It never fit you. It fits even worse now.

This book is the other kind.

What’s inside

  • What actually changes in a woman’s body after 40 — in plain English, without the biology lecture
  • The bloodwork to ask for, and what to say when your doctor waves you off
  • Gentle intermittent fasting that respects your hormones — we start at twelve hours, not thirty-six
  • Protein-forward meals you can prep in ninety minutes on a Sunday, not five hours
  • The quiet levers nobody mentions: sleep, walking, muscle, stress
  • A true day-by-day 30-day reset — thirty numbered days, real meals, no hand-waving
  • And Day 31, because most books walk you to the door and wave

No pills. No powders. No promises about pounds. And no shame — not for your weight, not for your age, not for the cookie you ate last Tuesday.

You’ll meet Karen, Linda and Janet in Chapter One. Their stories run the length of this book, and they do not all end the way you would expect.

Slow is what works after forty. The consolation prize is that slow also lasts.

About the author

Samantha Bax has spent most of two decades in other women’s kitchens. She is not a doctor, and she says so on every page where it matters. What she has is a great many hours at kitchen tables with women in their forties, fifties and sixties, a stubborn habit of reading the actual studies, and a low tolerance for people who profit from making women feel like they failed.
