THE ROOM:
Parkers' Lighthouse is beautifully situated on the waterfront at the end of the "point" at Shoreline Village in Long Beach. It offers wonderful views of the Long Beach Harbor, San Pedro Bay and the Queen Mary. You can dine inside or out and there is a view from every table. The restaurant is bright and airy, almost an all white interior. Gangplank like walkways and multi level stairs gives one the feeling that you really are in a lighthouse. The Galley bar on the top floor of the restaurant is a great place for a cocktail day or night and you just can beat those views. Enjoy a sunny day and have lunch outdoors on the patio where the sun just sparkles and shimmers on the water. It is a truly pleasant experience.
THE FOOD:
Parkers' Lighthouse serves a mostly seafood menu. Their "Starters" and appetizers include a sampler plate, oysters, steamers, shrimp, calamari, Ahi tuna, crabcakes, chowders, gumbo and a selection of salads. Parkers' has a large selection of fresh fish entrees they grill over a mesquite fire. They also serve some sushi and sashimi. Entrees include lobster, Alaskan King Crab and dishes that combine seafood with pasta like seafood linguini and chicken and shrimp jambalaya. The combination platters are perfect for those large appettites that like to mix it up surf and turf or just want to enjoy more than one kind of seafood. For the meat eater they present a filet mignon, a 14 ounce New York, a ribeye and a pork chop. I ordered oysters on the half shell, calamari and the Chilean Sea Bass. The sea bass was recommended by a friend who had it at Parkers' over six months before but had raved about it. I was very disappointed when the waiter returned to tell me the restaurant was out of oysters. I found that odd! The calamari were overly battered but the sauce was tangy. The Chilean Sea Bass was prepared with a Miso-Mirin glaze and served with baby bok choy, Asian vegetables and micro greens. It was delicious and I enjoyed every bite. The fish was fresh and the Miso-Mirin glaze is always a tasty way to enhance the flavor of a fish. The meal ended well despite the disappoinments of the appetizers.
THE SERVICE:
We were there on a very busy night and noticed some wait time but nothing that made me crazy. Our server was friendly and accomodating. I don't know who was more disappointed in the fact Parkers' was out of oysters that evening, me or my server.
