THE ROOM:
Lasher's restaurant is housed in a lovely renovated Craftsman - style house from the 20's. Lasher's has a very warm, homey feeling to it, romantic if you will and you will find several different rooms and a patio to dine in. I have eaten at Lasher's on numerous occassions but I must mention that I was particularly taken with their Christmas decorating touches that put me immediately in the spirit of the season. Lasher's has a very cozy and comfortable atmosphere and you feel relaxed and taken care of there. The dining rooms are tight but I haven't felt squeezed in.
THE FOOD:
Lasher's is known for it's comfort food and that was what I was looking for a particular cool and rare wet night. I ordered the Maryland Crab Cakes that were served with a decent lemon beurre blanc sauce and a lovely relish made with pineapple. The crab cakes were nicely sauteed with ample crab and light on the filling. Ken ordered the "Award Winning New England Clam Chowder" and it was very, very good. The clam chowder at Lasher's has a reputation to uphold and they did do that. I ordered another Lasher's speciality which was the Braised Short Rib of Beef. It's not hard to do a good job of braising a short rib but it is hard to make it exceptional. The meat was perfectly tender and melted in your mouth and the accompanying juices were incredibly flavorful. Ken ordered the Seared Jumbo Scallops and they were sweet and juicy. They were accompanied by a roasted red pepper and butter reduction. The sauce wasn't too rich and it didn't overpower the scallops.
THE SERVICE;
The service at Lasher's is very good. You are greeted with a smile and are made to feel welcome. The rooms are small enough that when you need something it is easy to catch a server's eye. Sometimes in restaurant with multiple rooms you lose you server entirely but that didn't happen in the case. The other thing that often happens in small rooms is that the server is "always hovering" but again that didn't happen. The service was professional and paced.
COMMENTS:
Lasher's is run by a husband and wife team, Ray & Lynn Lasher, who also have another Lasher's in Burbank. I have never been disappointed in the food or the service. The owners and staff are very interested in seeing you have a pleasant meal.
