THE ROOM:
Kelly's, in the Naples district of Long Beach, has a somewhat nondisrcipt brick facade but once inside you have the feel of a stepping into another era. The restaurant is softly lit with deep red upolstered booths that you just want to sink into after a few signature martinis at the bar. Not a big room but one that gives the feeling of elegance from the 50's and 60's. It is a very comfortable and cozy place.
THE FOOD:
Kelly's is a classic steak, prime rib and seafood restaurant. Their appetizers include escargot, summer squash tempura and a hot crab dip. They have a soup of the day as well as a lobster bisque and a "fill you up" baked gruyere and onion soup. A variety of salads are available my two most favorite are the iceberge wedge with a blue cheese dressing and their Salad Throckmorton which is a fabulous chopped salad. They have some specials that are unique to Kelly's that the locals praise but I have not had like the Lobster and Shrimp Kung Pao. Prime rib ranges from a 12 oz cut to a 20 oz cut. Forget the cholesterol here and leave your conscience at the door. Steaks served are filet, porterhouse, New York, and ribeye. Surf and turf selections are available as is a lamb, chicken and a Beef Stroganoff. There is a fresh catch of the day as well as other fish selections and an Abalone Steak Milanese. I had the New York Pepper steak and a side of buttered spinach. This steaks was well prepared, cooked exactly to taste and melted in my mouth. The spinach was fresh and earthy.
THE SERVICE:
The service at Kelly's is very good. The staff are friendly and very attentive. You can tell they want you to enjoy your time with them.
