SUNSET BEACH LOCATION:
ROOM & FOOD:
The Sunset Beach location of the Harbor House Cafe, a bright red building right there on PCH, is the perfect location. It is the ultimate roadside Cafe built as a beach cottage and converted to a restaurant in 1939. Inside you will find an honest to goodness lunch counter with swivelling chairs and diner booths. The decor is a combination of motion picture memorabilia with a nautical slant. There are lots of little corners to eat in and even a patio area to catch some sea breezes. The Harbor House offers a pure and ample American menu that has much to sate any appetite but plan on huge portions because the Harbor House doesn't skimp on servings. Breakfast, one of my very favorite late night meals, is served 24 hours a day. Ah! You can't complain about the Harbor House Cafe's menu that includes salads, sandwiches,burgers, appetizers, entrees that also include Mexican and Chinese selections as well as dessert and standard beverages with a basic selection of beers and wines. The real feature for me that makes the Harbor Cafe a special place are those breakfast selections especially the omelettes. I think they have over 25 omelettes choices on the menu not to mention breakfast quesadillas, chorizio & egg burritos, breakfast sandwiches, all kinds of egg dishes and breakfast sides along with hot cakes and French toast. Let's talk about those omelettes. I had the Hobo omelette which was packed with ground beef, onion, bell peppers, tomatoes and cheese. I wanted some avocado and sour cream too which they happily added. Sides include a choice of breads or tortillas and home fries or steamed rice or sliced tomatoes or cottage cheese or peaches or spinach or fresh fruit. Are you stuffed yet? The omelette was huge and I needed a "doggie bag" but it was certainly one of the better omelettes I have had. The great thing about this place is you can eat anything you want at any time and at any time it is just an amazing confluence of people from diehard locals to tourists, surfers, working stiffs, grandparents, kids, "the girls" and the list goes on. This little roadside cafe is a must whenever you drive down PCH and you are in the Long Beach, Sunset Beach or Huntington Beach area.
SERVICE;
This is diner service. It works. They can get extremely busy and even finding a parking spot can be a challenge. Relax you are at the beach and it is a roadside cafe. Enjoy.
